Finally, level 3, the final level, involves jumping (or ducking) to avoid
boulders that endlessly roll and bounce on level ground. Atari never explains
this, I assume the Atari 2600 lacked any proper physics optimizations, but who
knows. I'm sure the system was as effective back then as the Playstation is now. Those big boulders and damn hard. | One touch of boulder and Jungey is squished, with a big headache. If you land
on a boulder, you still suffer that fate. Jungey also runs at 0.002 miles per
hour, because if you run then duck, you'll notice the boulder's don't change
speed at all. As the picture to the left indicates, the big boulders are DAMN
HARD. They usually require ducking, but since the hit detection isn't very
good, your chances of being squished are pretty high anyway. In the end, you
must face the greatest evil, and the first ever hint of dark magic video game
history has to offer, the Witchdoctor! Well, at least that's what I think it is. |
The Witchdoctor jumps around back and forth around the center of the screen,
while the sprite of itself gets reversed to simulate some sort of animation. If
you touch the 'doctor, you'll end up squished like you touched a boulder. I
guess the Witchdoctor's mace is pretty powerful.Bonus: Boss music!
The boss music is that same few tones played over and over. While compared to
video game music these days, you may think "That sucks ass.", the thrill of
three quick tones turns up the heat of the fact of life for Jungey: There are
three chess pieces in this situation, two Witchdoctor's and Jungey. How's that
for symbolism? Jungle hunt is as symbolistic as Xenogears! Finally, when you
pass the evil Witchdoctors, you get treated to a heartwarming ending.
| In this cute and serene scene, we get to see Jungey and the girl/blonde haired
man dance for joy as they found each other. The fact that they are dancing is
rather strange, seeing as they are still in Witchdoctor territory. However,
when the game is done totalling your score, you are transported BACK TO LEVEL
1! Where you are forced to do it all over again. Cruel fate! | Jungey and the girl get jiggy with it. |
Finally, the verdict. Is this game any good? Of COURSE it is! Never will you
play a classic game so deep and intense as this one. And could you imagine a
game more than ten years old that is better than watching that "quality" television show Survivor?Page 1
