As my vast readership (one or two of you, maybe) has probably noticed in my story, The Third Eye, I have included someone else's character in the story. No doubt you have heard of Meeki in some way or another. I had permission from her creator, whose web site mine is in love with, but you are probably thinking "jesus, cityhuntr, you unoriginal son of a bitch, think of your own characters!!!"
The inclusion of Meeki is not because of unoriginality. I had another character planned for her position before deciding to switch over. To be honest, going with the original character probably wouldn't have turned out so well, not that the original character was boring or uninteresting, but Meeki fits so well in the slot already.
The other reason I included the character of Meeki is because I needed to make some sort of tribute for her creator. Before she drew me up some Braya pictures, I never took Braya very seriously. And Joanna is a good friend of mine as well, and I have done so little to pay her back for what she has done for me. In the story, Braya and Meeki are very supportive friends to each other. At the current time of writing, they might not seem that way, but as things will progress, they will get very close. Meeki has problems that her creator has often expresses of herself. Braya will help her with those problems, at least to alleviate some of the stress. The reason I chose to make the character represent (to a degree) the person is because of the failure of myself to provide Joanna a proper friend-like support. Sad to say, I'm just no good at making anyone feel good in conversation. My only option at this rate is to express my care through my writing. It may not be direct, it may even be somewhat cryptic, but this writing is all I have these days. I hope I can help her even a little by writing this story and having a bit of her in it.
