Thinking to the future

While work is coming along with my current novel, it always helps to think to the future about the next one. This is a little brainstorm for the main character of novel 2 (The Cursed Demons).

Temporarily unnamed main character

The main character of the second novel. He is an experienced detective who has mostly had decent success in his career. The novel centers around his journal writing which he uses as a storage medium for information and ideas regarding his newly appointed investigation.

This detective is rather burned out in regards to his job. As a child, he was heavily influenced by the supposed danger and action of popular detective stories. He wished to seek that career in order to experience the same things, but reality unfortunately hasn't been so kind to him. He is renowned for his job skills and success, but ultimately has had a mostly peaceful job that has not lead him into any kind of serious danger or excitement. He often admits to himself that it was a silly child's dream to want to be in danger and have such an exciting career, but there is an unmistakable void in his being that still longs for him to be one of those film noir type of investigators. This void needs to be filled, but one can only hope he fills it with the right thing.

He has a rather thin body by his investigation's beginning, but he has a lot of endurance to make up for it. His face has often been one of kindness, though his expression gradually becomes more neutral by the time of the novel's narration. People who know him would not go far without admitting that this detective is a rather subdued man even in his body language, but despite this physically gentle behavior he is not shy to get what he wants out of people.

This middle-aged detective has only one relationship: his wife. The two have been married for ten years, but they have no children. The relationship is healthy, but the investigation that the novel centers around puts a strain on their relationship as the detective becomes obsessed with the case.
