nexustk nexus the kingdom of the winds death museIt's been a while since I've actually posted anything about my works on this page (other than the works themselves), so I think I'll finally take the time to do a little update about how I feel things are going.

I finished part one of The Birth of the Universe recently. I have written an intermission chapter as well, and now I have started working on Chapter 8 to begin the second part. I actually spent a tremendous amount of time planning part 2, and I'm still not even done with that. You can see how I've been approaching that by visiting the curzipedia recent changes. There's a gigantic amount of recent changes compared to how it usually was before, but I feel that I have done enough for the purpose of writing. I saw once again that it can be daunting to balance myself between planning for writing and just becoming obsessed with supplying the wiki with as much information as possible.

So far the novel is about 85 pages, and measures up to just around 35300 words. That's slightly less than half the size of my first novel effort, The Third Eye, which is yet to be rewritten sometime in the future. And now what does the future of TBOTU hold?

Part two is going to be rather different than part one. Let me briefly explain this. Part one was narrated in two ways due to the needs of the time line. There is a kind of historical approach to a portion of the story, and then there are the more traditional scenes and dialogue that follow specific events. The historical narrative had to be used for most of the work because the beginning of the story takes place over many hundreds of years. It wasn't effective to write real-time scenes for every event that happened. But I know that it is more difficult for some to enjoy such an approach to telling a story, which prompted me to include more detailed scenes to balance things out. I tried to make every chapter I could have both of these narrative styles in order to keep things a little interesting, and perhaps have the reader wonder what may happen between each section of the chapters. I couldn't quite achieve that for every single chapter, but I think I struck a decent balance.

And what does the above paragraph have to do with part two, then? For a while, I actually wasn't really sure what I was going to do with part two at all. I had crucial events leading up to it, but there were many possibilities in how things could play out from there. But I came to a decision that Part two had to drop the historical approach and stick with one character. As much as it seems that a “Birth of the Universe” story would follow God, I wanted it to follow Lucifer for reasons of symbolism. Also, Lucifer is a character who I believe is much more interesting to follow. He needs to seek out his children, which provides a situation to really describe the various environments of the universe now that they are starting to exist. But beyond that, it was only a matter of luck that I remembered a way to make these investigative journeys interesting.

There were creatures in previous chapters who expressed disdain for the humans, and those people will be crucial element to this upcoming part. This approach also allowed me to create Singen Kein, a character I think can be very interesting when I get a chance to write her parts. As you'll see on the link to her page on the curzipedia, she has a bond with Gagi Na, a powerful magical bird. I've established in the Outdated Eye that Gagi and Lucifer have some kind of mild past, and now I'm happy that I've managed to find a way to put it together. The introduction of Gagi to the story also introduces a few minor but notable human elements, but I won't get into that now. I'll leave you with these few remarks about part two, and I hope that this somehow interests you to keep on reading, or start reading, whatever:

Part 2 pits Lucifer against some his own children as detest of humans escalates. But Lucifer also once disliked the humans due to their connection to his father. The confusion he must feel for this conflict of interests will put a lot of pressure on him, as he is the one who may very well determine the outcome of what happens between the humans and the spirits. Or will he be up to doing anything at all? We'll see.
