morse gamefly advertisement guy
Morse from his advertisment picture for Gamefly

Unless you've totally banished ads from your web browser with something like adblock, you've probably seen a lot of crazy banner ads over the years. If you've been around gamefaqs and several other gaming sites, you'll undoubtedly recognize the man to the left.

Though he remains nameless to the general public, a friend of mine and I have settled with calling him "Morse". Morse after after one of these things? I don't know, he's just Morse.

Morse's eventual getting a job in advertising for Gamefly is actually a mysterious story that is difficult to put together. Ever since he accepted the job, he has been removed from society for scientific reasons. Morse lived a rather average childhood in miscellaneous Wisconsin cities. His father was constantly moving, so it was difficult for him to settle down and make friends. He become somewhat insecure during all of the moves, but in order to encourage him to be happy, his mother taught him that all he should do whenever he feels lonely is to smile. Since he was sad much of the time, he practiced his smiling for a great deal of his free time.

Soon, Morse found that it worked and the simple act of faking a smile made him happier. Something was still missing from his life, however, and simple a facial gesture simply wouldn't get it. Morse needed to go on an adventure to find true meaning in his life. Being 17, he needed income to fund his expedition. This was unfortunately a very difficult task for him, as his father was still moving around Wisconsin constantly. Morse almost completely gave up on his efforts when his sister, Morsa, pointed out a job regarding Internet authoring.

Morse immediately took the job, as he always carried his computer with him wherever he went. Under various pen names, he wrote many influential articles across the web. It's difficult to trace his writing career, as he didn't use the same name more than once. People have only suggested that Morse's writing technique was very impressive and he may have influenced many large companies, internet and otherwise, to come crashing down in bankruptcy and defeat. Nobody really knows why Morse would have done this, if he truly is responsible for the death of these various companies. But the rumors circulated, and Morse started becoming a feared public enemy. My only guess as to the reasoning of his behavior is that his lonely life constantly on the move had led him to a strange maniacal despair.

After several years of vicious writing, Morse eventually gained enough money to settle down in his own home. He was 20 by this time and was ready to leave his parents, who were still moving around every other month. Morse seized the opportunity by renting a flat in Sacramento, California. His first job in California was to write for a few politicians, but these writings too were under a pen name difficult to trace to him.

After his political career abruptly ended, Morse needed money. He wasn't sure where to turn, being dejected by the end of his writing. He surfed the internet in constant search for a new money-making scheme, but was mostly unsuccessful until he ran into Gamefly. At the time it was a relatively new company that was just getting off its feet. The company needed advertising, and that was when Morse decided to help them. Morse remembered the smile his mother told him to use during sad occasions, and decided to apply this smile to his pictures in the advertisements.

When Gamefly began making television commercials, Morse all but vanished from the banners. One of the top CEOs of Gamefly was frightened by Morse's unique smile and called in a team of scientists to study Morse's face as if he was a dangerous animal. Morse became very sad at this predicament and his smile only increased.

Several years later, Gamefly was moving along and new advertising was needed. They hired Morsa, who had been searching for her long-lost brother. After learning of the terror that Morse was being subjected to, Morsa convinced the CEO and the scientists to let Morse go. They weren't reluctant to comply, as nothing was being learned of the evil experiments with Morse's face.

Morsa and Morse appeared in one final advertisement before Gamefly fired both of them. Nobody knows where they are at this time. People often suspect that the CEO of Gamefly has kidnapped them in the effort to cease any possibility of them exposing the secrets of the laboratory experiments. But nobody really knows for sure about this elusive sibling pair.
